Training for Middle Leaders

We deliver middle leader training as whole INSET days or as a series of twilights.

The key components are:

  • The subject leader standard
  • Using quantitative student level data to evaluate and plan for improvement
  • Using a range of sources for subject self-evaluation, how to run:
    (i) moderation exercises
    (ii) student work scrutinies
    (iii) marking and assessment surveys
    (iv) student consultations about teaching and learning needs
  • How to observe the classroom, feedback and take the right action
  • Self-evaluation as a team-building tool
  • Contributing to whole-school self evaluation.

These expert practitioners are seconded heads of department or those with recent experience of subject leadership. They work with the departments to implement the recommendations of the SLT or external review/inspection. These colleagues act as mentors for subject leaders and coaches for other subject teachers.
